GIT has begun an extensive project to change from expensive conventional filament lighting to low cost LED lighting with an initial savings of 39.2% in their light bills. This LED system is one of the "green" alternatives that have appeared on the scene lately concerning ecologically safe methods for generating electricity and creating light. Light Emitting Diodes (LED) are non-filament devices and therefore do not create light by "burning" anything, thereby creating heat. This systemn has a huge potential and plans are being implemented to turn the whole campus lighting to LED.
