Recognizing the waste of energy incurred by untapped parking and street lights, The UC Davis California Lighting Technology Center came out with a bi-level LED lighting system that only uses around 20 percent of the energy used by conventional street and parking lighting systems.
The system detects movements 35 feet away. When there are no vehicles nearby, the lights will shift to a lower-intensity lighting that will further reduce energy usage.
